Tires Toyo or Pirelli
My 2012 GLI came with Pirelli PZero Nero A/S tires on it. It handles incredibly well, not sure how much of that is GLI and how much is the tires, but definitely no complaints here.
Mine are at ~28 to 30psi on 205/40/16 Toyo Proxes4 16x9 RH wheels
I had Pirelli snows last year and they worked great
The top rated tire in this class was a Pirelli P Zero Nero All Season tire.
I'm pretty happy with how things came out with the tires. We really haven't had any snow where I live to really try them out, but in the cold weather, even the dry traction is worlds better than the PZeros that came on the care---despite being an inch smaller and a good amount narrower (235 vs 255).
Tires - I almost forgot! The Toyo tires were fine. Like any street tire, they got a bit greasy near the end of a 20 minute track session. Otherwise, no issues.
If you want the best of both worlds, get Toyo T1R's. They are an all around amazing tire. They stretch great and perform well in wet and dry conditions. My car has never felt more \"sure footed\" than when i had 195-45 T1R's on my 15x8's.
The tires I had on my 20th were recalled because of some side wall crakcing that caused them to leak air and les schwab sold me a set of 225/40/18 Toyo somehting or other for $312 out the door because of the hassle I went through with the recalled set I bought from them.
My Pirellis got very noisy at 20K and were badly cupped by 30K. I wouldn't recommend replacing them with another set of the same tire.
the stock P-Zero Neros are garbage. I've replaced all 4 of mine. I have two of them with a decent amount of tread sitting outside because I couldn't bring myself to toss them, but they really suck.
