Tires Toyo or Vredestein
We replaced our tires on our LR Model Y at 28k miles. They’re amazingly smooth and quiet. A significant difference from the Goodyear tires which were such a rough ride - so much so that we were considering replacing the suspension!!! The Goodyear tires also had the foam core supposedly to reduce road noise - but the Vredestein tires are quiet without foam! AND they were cheaper as well.
I have them on 19" on a MYP and on my ice car. They very good. Nice with comfort (since they are a touring tire, not a performances tire) and rides over small bumps well.
Great in rain, very good in moderate snow on my Alltrack.
I swapped my Conti original equip. for these and will buy them again for sure. Quiet and good in moderate amount of snow. Check TireRack for reviews. Nothing will be as good as a dedicated snow tire and I'm sure you know that. Good luck.
I replaced the Bridgestone that came on my Golf SEL wagon 225/40R18 Vredestein's Quatrac Pro. The handling is equal to the Bridgestone's and the ride and nose level is greatly improved. I haven't used in the snow but they are better than the Bridgestones in the rain. Plus they cheaper than many of the other tires.
I'm running Toyo tires Proxes ST3. Such a much smoother ride than the stocks. Super grippy as well. Wet performance is also great.
Bought a separate set of winter wheels, sensors, and tires (Vredestein Wintrac Pro) from Tire Rack. Otherwise just regular maintenance. Driven over 65k miles so far, almost all of it chasing snow throughout New England.
I recommend Toyo tires, Bridgestone and Michelin. We usually go with toyo but all of the 3 have served us well
Good:
Excellent on ice for non studded
God like handling in the snow. Rivals the Michelins. This tire was seriously impressive. If it wasn't for the drawback I experienced below this tire would be a no brainer
VERY good handling on ice
Bad:
Dangerous handling during heavy rains. Aquaplaned very easily. I had a small light car. If you get these tires, remember this post and be cautious the first few rains until you get a feel for them. It may be that my car that was light for the thread design (2512 lbs with short wheelbase)
Tire wear goes fast on dry hot pavement
Noisiest tire I've had on my vehicle to date
I just got my first experience on the Toyos this morning in some snow here in Virginia. The Toyos were really pretty awful :-(. They're fine for getting going and driving around - in fact, even starting off a hill was really no issue, but God help you if you have to stop quickly...because they wont. It was a slide-fest even with just a thin layer of snow.
