Water pump OEM BMW or OEM Volkswagen
id buy the whole water pump, because you dont know exactly where the leak is. i did mine over the winter and in my case one of the inlets cracked badly. I bought this part: 06J-121-026-BG, and even though it had a sensor on one of the coolant outlet pipes, I didnt plug anything in it and its been fine.
Mine started leaking last night. Took it to the dealership this morning and just got the call that they installed a new water pump under a recall. No charge.
My water pump was replaced, I was given a loaner and some financial compensation ($599.00) towards the auto loan.
We have had our 2008 for a year and a half. It is a Komfort with 6spd manual and 2.0T. Bought it with 42k on it, currently has about 80k. Problems we have had so far are intake manifold, fuel injector cleaning, and waterpump. Overall we have been really happy with the car.
My 2012 Tiguan SE 4Motion, 18k miles so far 1. Water pump high pitch noise when engine warm up, it happened at around 700 miles (pretty new), dealer said it is a flaw of that particular water pump, they ordered the part and replaced it.
Mine died 2 months ago (2012 GTI). It leaked out the coolant over 2 days or so. Dealership replaced it free, then I got the recall notice.
I have a MK6 and a MK7 and they both suffer the same crappy design. Making a water pump primarily out of plastic is just a bad idea. My MK6 is on at least it's third water pump at a little over 100k miles.
metal impellers definetely can eff up your setup. I had one on my 2.0 jetta. and it completely froze, and caused me to overheat, which killed my headgasket. The engine never fully recovered from that.
I was sitting at an In-n-Out drive-in when the low coolant warning dinged. Drove it the 2 mi home while keeping an eye on temps and popped the hood. The overflow tank was 75% empty and there was an apparent leak. By the end of the hour, it was completely dry. Got it towed to the local dealership and it took a day to diagnose and another day to get my car back. I'm grateful it didn't blow during my little road trip.
155k miles - water pump leaking again, gaskets in inlet/outlet pipes need new gaskets, put on aftermarket aluminum water pump in hopes to prevent future leaks.
