I just get the Goodyear replacements at Costco as needed without any issues or modification.
Pros: no issues, no modification
Used them before and they are pretty good, and for the price you cant beat it..

Costco has goodyear aero wipers for $8 that worked excellently on my old GTI. They aren't the exact same size as the OEM ones, but they work great and lasted longer.
Pros: work great, lasted longer
Cons: not exact same size
