Denso Alternator

The alternator is $700, with today’s pricing that’s totally fair. Just checked with local parts suppliers, for a 2.5L Mazda 6, for a quality Denso unit, it’s fucking $350 before markup, and the cheaper options are still over $200! You have to remove the intake for this job which requires new gaskets as well, so for $700 you’re getting a good deal.

Pros: good deal, quality Denso unit
Cons: requires new gaskets
Vehicle: Mazda 6

Hengst Oil filter

It’s easy peasy to DIY at every OCI (5k mi or 6 mos whichever comes first, 2014 Mazda6 Touring 6MT). Been doing it, for decades (various makes; at times with an oil boy vacuum fluid extractor). Will be changing mine tomorrow. This time, will try Kirkland 0W20, with a German Hengst oil filter (identical dimensions/specs Made in Japan OEM Mazda PE01-14-302) plus Lubro Moly MoS2 (molybdenum).

Pros: easy to DIY, good quality
Vehicle: Mazda 6
Mileage: 5000 km
Part number: PE01-14-302

VALVOLINE Engine oil

No issues at 150k on my 6. I do not worry but do run pea type injector cleaner every 3-5k and use quality oil that helps prevent off gas issues like Mobil 1 and Valvoline

Pros: quality oil, prevents issues
Vehicle: Mazda 6
Mileage: 150000 km

Continental Tires
lets_just_n0t
Rating 4.0
 • Grip:
 • Ride comfort:

I’ve had the Michelins and the Conti’s on my Mazda 6. Not a RWD vehicle, but enough to get an idea. The Michelins are great tires, but after having the Conti’s as well, the Michelins are absolutely not worth the extra money. The Michelins were a *tad* bit more “sharp” when changing directions at high speed. Quick lane change type stuff. But really other than that, the Conti’s are just as good as the Michelins. And for me, they’re wearing better too.

Pros: wearing better
Cons: extra money
Vehicle: Mazda 6

I had Quatrac Pros on my last car. (2014 Mazda 6 Touring). They were quiet and rode nice, but I was underwhelmed by their snow performance.

Pros: quiet and rode nice
Cons: underwhelmed snow performance

WEST LAKE Tires

I got 4 tires of the WestLake SA07 from American Tires. The westlake tires were wearing very fast. I have 2018 Mazda 6 FWD. At end of 2 tire rotations after 10,000 the thread level was 6mm on all tires. After another 10,000 miles when I went for tire rotation, the front tires were at 3mm, and 1mm which I did not expect.

Cons: wearing very fast
Vehicle: Mazda 6
Mileage: 10000 km
