Lucky for us, the Alternator was in fact faulty (it was a Bosch btw) and that the previous owner replaced it a few months prior, meaning it was still under warranty.
I have had very good luck with Falken tires on my Mercedes cars. Lots of tread warranty etc Also, some of the BFGoodrich (Owned by Michelin - I think) tires are good.

I bought a cheap 2005 mercedes with a burned out headlight. I took the front bumper shell off (kind of a pain), then swapped parts to determine a ballast was bad. I cross referenced part numbers and bought a VW ballast on ebay for $55. Put it all back together and all is good.
I fitted Nokian Hakkapeliitta on it last winter and was very pleased with them.
I used Mercedes Benz concentrate, its the only fluid ths works with my wife's silly single wiper system. My problem has been solved!!
