The Golf R springs with Bilstein B6 dampers did moderately lower the wagon's body roll and, paradoxically, not really negatively affect ride quality from what I can tell.

I run Bilstein B4s in my project Rabbit. The car rides and handles great now. I drove it to work not long after getting it back together, and it was a very smooth, quiet ride.
Bilstein B6 for stiffer suspension -- helped a ton with tire wear given our driving habits and locale. Much better ride in the twisties.
I’m running Whiteline springs with B8’s it’s similar to stock in ride comfort, but far more compliant and sticks to the road
well.
I did the same thing a few years ago, the b6’s have held up and ride better than stock
Replace OEM Sport Suspension with OEM standard Springs, new Bilstein B4 Shocks - $1500
A 2” lift on Bilsteins 5100 shocks is the best bang for the buck.
Can't go wrong with billstein 5100's set at an 1 1/2 lift to get the extended travel out of em.
just did Bilstein B6s. I generally want an OEM feel, but tires are so much stickier now, so going B6 made sense.
Save the expense of paying for those shocks and go with Bilstein or Koni, buy the deflator/compressor and come out way ahead. Airing down makes a big difference.
