Hawk Performance Brake pads

After a vicious session at Dunnville my HPS pads were faded to nothing after 4 laps. HP Plus aquipped cars faired better than myself. For the street HPS is a good. But if you track at all then HP PLus is the bare minimum with Blue being preferred.

Pros: good for the street
Cons: faded to nothing, not for track use

I have tried the following pads (and still have them on my shelf): Stock Pagids, Mintex Reds, HPS, HP+, Ferodo DS2500 (fronts), Carbotech P+ (fronts). I have used each for several thousand miles after breaking each in per manufacturers' recommendations. And yes, this means I was changing brake pads at least every few weeks. Rotors too, I also have 3 sets of front rotors. This was all in pursuit of GREAT braking at autocross, then on track. I don't know if the HPS are the best street pad, but they're decent. That's how I meant it. Call them a 7 of 10. They aren't what I want in a street pad, but for someone that never does autocross or track days - they're good. Personally I thought they were very similar to the stock 20AE Pagids. (I originally went from Stock to Mintex to HPS to Stock and back to HPS again, btw) The HPS dusted as much as the stockers and had similar bite. I didn't test their fade resistance. With a stock braking system, I think HP+ and DS2500 are both IFFY track pads. The HP+ are great as long as you don't overheat them and replace them every 2 or 3 events.

Pros: great if not overheated
Cons: iffy for track, need frequent replacement

I've had HPS' on my car for two years and I can say quite certainly what you say is SO not true. They are def. low dust and have performed quote well for me at umerous track events and are EXCELLENT on the street.

Pros: definitely low dust, excellent on the street

I have run HPS, HP+, DS2500, and P+. Blues are in another world entirely from HPS. HPS is a decent, not great, street pad. It isn't low dust, but it is firm and even friction. HP+ is more bitey, quite firm, squeals like a baby, and dusts like crazy.

Pros: firm and even friction
Cons: not a great street pad, isn't low dust

I had a track day yesterday and I think my rear brakes are overheating. The rears are 9.1" solid rotors with Hawk HPS pads. The edge of the pads close to the rotors turned an orangy-brown colour and smelled real bad after my last session. I'm pretty sure it is overheating.

Cons: rears are overheating

What Wal said. I replaced pads with Hawk HPS which is a compromise street/performance pad so the feel of the brakes was changed. 1. Brake Fade reduced 2. Initial pad bite not as effective as stock pads - once warmed up OK, thats a trade off with ... 3. Reduced dust easier to manage 4. More pedal pressure required, this was due to larger rotor and the caliper sitting further out. This showed up a limitation of the rubber caliper bushings used in the stock calipers. Once replaced with metal bushings (Tyrolsports bushings) brake feel significantly improved. At the end of the day if you are talking about stopping in a shorter distance then many factors come into play including pads, tyres, weather etc. Assuming all the other factors are addressed then the A8 upgrade will give you some extra breaking \"power\" but the significant improvement is in reduced fade or repitition of that stopping power. The trade off is that the more fade resistant or race application the pads are then the less initial performance until optimal pad temp is reached. The HPS are a good compromise and I know that if I plant the foot the car will halt with this upgrade better than stock.

Pros: Brake fade reduced, reduced dust
Cons: less initial pad bite

Acabei de instalar algumas pastilhas Hawk que não vieram com o sensor e o som de aviso e a luz já estão começando a me deixar um pouco louco.

Pros: pastilhas Hawk instaladas
Cons: som de aviso irritante

You would get far, far better brake performance from Hawk HPS or EBC Green pads on flat, OEM replacement rotors. Those decorative rotors might look kind of cool, but they won't stop you any shorter, and could extend your stopping distance some. (Actually, to someone who understands the engineering of brake systems, rotors like those look really stupid.) And Mintex Red Box is a decent OEM quality pad with low dust, but they aren't very fade resistant and they aren't very grippy. They are comparable to stock or parts store house brand pads in performance, just less dusty.

Pros: better performance with Hawk/EBC pads
Cons: decorative rotors don't stop shorter, Mintex fade resistant, not grippy
