My 2016 civic touring had the 1.5T and I say on a weekly basis how much I miss my “old” civic (have a 2004 now). Thing was so much fun and so quick. And it lasted, with no issues, until 220,000 miles when the head gasket went and I traded it in. I was not easy on it either. And there were a few oil changes where I went a few thousand over.
My head gasket went at 65000 miles. All maintenance intervals was done. Synthetic oil. 1 driver. Gentle miles. After googling, this is/was a major problem with the 1.5.
The Civic has a question mark with it's L15 turbo engine and premature failing head gaskets. Same issues seen in CR-V's with that engine. Not everybody is going to experience it, but it shows up often and is definitely a design weakness in that engine.
I have this exact same car and it started throwing rich oil, misfiring on 1 and 4 plus low coolant. I replaced the coil packs and plugs myself and the codes still popped up. Had fuel injectors replaced and it fixed codes but coolant still ran low. Head gasket was the culprit.
My 2020 Accord 1.5t has 80K miles and already had to do valve cover gasket and now head gasket is blown. Then there’s also the issue of the front radar sensor that is constantly getting stolen because some genius at Honda decided to put this $700 part in the front of the car with nothing protecting it; looks like Honda just decided to give absolutely no f*cks when building this masterpiece. Oops almost forgot, had to replace the full head unit for the radio because it just decided to stop working at 50K miles.
I drove my 2003 Honda CRV with a blown head gasket for over 6 months. Drove it everywhere knowing it was on its last leg. The engine would go into “safe” mode often to protect the engine. That means i can’t accelerate past 60mph. Had to change the spark plugs once a month. Had to add oil and coolant every single time i drove it. Oil showed up in the radiator AND over filling the over flow. Finally gave out three weeks ago.
The average cost for a Honda Civic Head Gasket Replacement is between $1,707 and $1,994.
