Mitsuboshi Turbocharger

I replaced mine at 96k for the same issue. The wastegate gets warped and eroded and does not build enough boost. Mitsubishi is the original manufacturer that built them for BMW. I replaced mine with the MHI (Mitsubishi) big turbo because it was literally a hundred or so dollars more expensive.

Pros: big turbo, good price
Cons: wastegate gets warped
Vehicle: BMW
Mileage: 96000 km

Mitsuboshi Turbocharger

2.0 T has the Mitsubishi TD04 turbocharger, which is known to be reliable and make pretty good passing power (especially 40-70 mph).

Pros: reliable, good passing power
Vehicle: Saab

Mitsuboshi Pistons

For what it's worth, I had a balance shaft/oil pump belt break and get caught up in the timing belt on my '94 Galant. This caused the timing belt to skip several teeth (who knows how far) and bent all the valves. It left damage on all pistons, somewhat similar to the damage I see here. I smacked a head on it from the junk yard and proceeded to drive it another 15k miles without any related trouble.

Pros: drove 15k miles without trouble
Cons: damage on all pistons
Vehicle: Mitsubishi Galant
Mileage: 24140 km

  • Visible wear:

My mother had an '86, then upgraded to a '93 Pajero (so euro) 2.5TDI GLS. Not what you're looking at but I'll share some stuff FWIW. She sold the '93 in 2010. It was a pretty good car. Big and slow, but surprisingly comfortable, especially in the front. These are not as refined as a Range Rover etc, and they feel a bit like farm equipment at times. Got around really well in snow and cold with its advanced 4WD system, could put it in 2WD and get power oversteer too (I managed to smash a fence this way). Interior never felt top quality, but held up really well in terms of wear and tear. Floaty steering feel, squishy manual gearbox, easy clutch, squishy but decent brakes, turbo lag diesel engine. The timing belt snapped (probably because the mechanic did not replace it properly) and the head cracked, which cost a lot of money to replace and was difficult to source. Overall, not a great driving experience, but a decent and solid car that will do whatever you ask of it without grumbling.

Pros: surprisingly comfortable, held up well
Cons: floaty steering, turbo lag
Vehicle: Mitsubishi Pajero

Mitsuboshi Engine oil
Gabs08PHTN
Rating 5.0
  • Engine noise:

Perhaps an oil change using a quality branded oil would help to mitigate those issues. Some years ago I bought a second hand Mitsubishi Pajero 3.0V6 24V with 30.000km on the clock. I had a ticking noise produced by the valve lifters. After the first oil change using quality branded synthetic oil the ticking dissapeared.

Pros: ticking noise disappeared
Cons: ticking noise present
Vehicle: Mitsubishi Pajero
Mileage: 30000 km

  • Visible wear:

my dad has a 97 and that car has been pretty much great to him. never had a tranny issue or a head-gasket. the only problems he has had are have the timing belt snap on him (we think due to improper installation), leaking valve cover gasket (it is a PITA to change) and a heater core leak nothing insane though.

Pros: pretty much great
Cons: timing belt snap, valve cover gasket leaking
Vehicle: Mitsubishi Montero

Mitsuboshi Brake pads
FaLeX
Rating 4.0
  • Braking:
  • Noise:

The brakes offer as much feedback as any other part of the Evo, though pedal feel is softer than the STi's and the antilock brake system makes more noise. Our test car's best 60-0 stopping distance was 115.8 feet.

Pros: much feedback
Cons: softer pedal feel, noisy ABS

Mitsuboshi Timing belt
Nivolk
Rating 2.0
  • Visible wear:

The cheapest I found to replace the timing belt back then was nearly $1000, and it was due at 60k miles, not 100k like other brands.

Cons: expensive replacement, short service interval
Vehicle: Mitsubishi Galant
Mileage: 96560 km
