I bought Mann as my first and Hengst as my second, Mann all day.

The mann is or as someone else said, no real problems using that.
Personally I prefer the mann frecious plus filters due to annoying allergies. Though they are a huge pia to get for whatever reason so I am currently using a cortero filter. Good luck so far
Both are good for oil and air filters. But definitely get charcoal. Made a huge difference for a few more dollars on something you don't change often.
Mann is OE manufacture. When I worked at VW/Audi, our parts department would actually sell those Mann as oe. That’s what customers would get during their 20k services.
Mann filters have always been my go-to for my VWs and they've never let me down.
I put the KN in my 2019 mini cooper s, better performance noticed. Nothing huge though.
Due to restrictions in SCCA Stock class rules, I only run a K&N panel... though dyno time revealed only marginal hp gains (really, its a poor ROI over the stock paper, but the K&N was part of a diagnostics test my team was doing, so it was free).
I threw one in my Dakota I had before the GTI and I could notice the difference.
In my experience they are a waste of money with risk of fouling MAF sensor. I’ve tried them in my diesels and gassers. I never once wasted my time cleaning and re-oiling a K&N. I just threw it out and went back to OEM.
I had a K&N air filter in a NA engine VW. Some particles do get through as I could feel grit on the inside of the intake pipe past the airbox. I washed and oiled the filter per instructions.
