I went with a K&N and wash it every oil change.

I change both air filters every 10k miles and use fram, stp and such.
I just replaced both filters on my 2010 Corolla, got them at Autozone and it took me about 5 min total. STP is good for both…no need to go OEM.
After I swapped to a K&N drop-in filter and a lighter cat-back exhaust (the one I had was lighter than the stock), I was getting around 22-24 MPG with my EcoBoost.
I change mine every year. Along with spark plugs and clean my filter’s (have k&N ones you don’t throw those ones)
Ive been using the k&n reusable filters, they have held up pretty well. Expensive.
Took out the air box completely this time checked all the vacuum lines replaced the air filter with a Fram air filter.
I have an OE replacement filter in my GTi. Can I tell a difference? Not much in the GTi
I have had the washable type. Seemed like a lot of extra money and time to maybe get an extra horse and maybe fuel economy. I had just cleaned the filter and had to go somewhere. I threw in a fram air filter and didnt notice anything different.
All the tests I've seen suggest the K&N's allow more dirt through than a paper filter. You also have to clean and re-oil them periodically. If you use too much oil you might be looking at a new MAF sensor which can't take oil contamination.
There's no performance difference over a paper filter.
