I have scirocco 10.1's up front and 8(?) discs out back with mk4 calipers. All four have Hawk HPS pads I believe. They're more than enough stopping power, OEM, and very affordable if you buy them on vortex, ebay, or a junkyard.
I almost doubled the HP on my gti, and the stock brakes worked fine. Just upgrade to vented regular stock brake set up.
I installed EBC Red pads about 2 weeks ago. I don't have any squeaking problems, pedal is super stiff and grabs incredibly fast. The dust is really low in comparison to the stock pads. At this point my white wheels would be covered in black. The dust on there now is acceptable in my opinion. I know others don't like the EBC brakes. So far, I'm very happy with them. I have run the Carbotech 1521 on the street and can confirm they are low dust and noise, but not the most performance oriented.
I just changed my pads and rotors at all four corners asI was always very unhappy with the stock pads and rotors; mostly because of noise in the cold and the amount of brake dust the pads made. Upon inspection of my rotors, with barely 30k miles on them, there was a startling amount of material removed and channeling from the pads. I would totally recommend you replace the rotors at the same time. I too went with the ECS slotted and drilled rotors with Carbotech 1521 pads and love the setup. Very quiet, very little dust and good performance.
I got the EBC Red brake pads installed front and rear. I ever so slightly cleaned the wheels the same day they were installed. So far so good. I haven't noticed any large amounts of brake dust. Stopping is great. Brake pedal is more touchy now. Overall I'm very happy with them!
So far the above combination is great, brakes are stronger than stock, take longer to fade, and don't make any noise. But the dust...it's horrible. I'm finding myself cleaning my wheels 1-2 times a week now :what:.
If you hate brake dust but want reliable braking power, Akebono pads are a good choice.
I don't know much about Stop-Tech, however, I have heard from a friend that used Wilwood that these perform best in non-Winter driving conditions. He said that over time they will not stand up as well as a Brembo set up. It might be worth noting what climate (Alaska vs California) that you spend most of your driving time in as well when factoring a BBK upgrade. That's the standard Toe-N-Go alignment.. most "alignment" places do that, unless you go to a specialized alignment place.
