I was using 0w20 because of price but got some mobile 1 deal 0w16 for cheap so I'll try that and see if I get better MPG (currently 35-42).

Liquimoly 4210 0w-30 or pennzoil platinum euro lx 0w-30 are the two best imo. I have heard from some other mk8 owners that Pennzoil drops engine temps by 8-20 degrees F so thats what goes in mine.

I use Valvoline 20W 50 VR1 racing oil. It’s got a high magnesium content so well suited for the gearbox.

Any oil that meets the manufacturer's specification for your car will be fine. Mannoil 5W30 fully synthetic meets VW 502.00 and ebay sell 5L for about £17 - why pay more?

i use amsoil saber when i have it but not at 100:1 I don't really care if the engineer says its fine.
I stay away from Mobil 1 and Castrol because although they are everywhere they are not as good as they euro synthetics. In Europe they are not even legally considered synthetics. When I drain mobil1 it looks black and the engine is missing a quart...
