Since you're in Europe, go get Meguin Super Leichtlauf 5W40 for your next change. It's just rebranded fully synthetic Liqui Moly oil, since Meguin handles production for Liqui Moly. Hands down best oil for pre-OPF engines and only 6€ per Liter.

So, the cause for VANOS to work as shit was an oil. I put Motul and engine drunk it like it was a water. After oil change to Castrol magnatec, engine works like a charm.

Last oil change I've decided to try what my friends run and bought FUCHS GERMANY: TITAN SYN MC 10W-40 and put 2k km on it, I'm pleased, it's nice greasy and cheap

I use 15W-40 Liqui Moly Touring High Tech mineral oil. The filter you buy from BMW is made by Mahle so I would suggest that.
