In a pinch, I used Mobil 1.

I used Motul and it made shifting noticeably better
I used the Kawasaki 10w-40 for the first year I rode mine, it would always have an odd mis shift here and there. Last year I used Motul 7100 and it made a huge difference, way less shifting issues
I'm at 365,000 km and switched to Shell Rotella T6 probably 30-40k ago. Oil consumption was at last halved - the detergents in that oil really help clean up deposits in the rings, or so I'm told.
Some 5w-40 can be quite thick in cold. The 0w-30 here is German Syntec, and trust me it's the same visc curve as 0w-40. As you see, 5w-40 is 3-4x thicker in cold than jug 5w-30
I always use Castrol on both my Honda and Volkswagen.
If you are considering an oil additive, best practice is to instead use higher quality oil (I like motul) and select one which matches your use case.
Quality synthetic oils provide the lowest oil temps, longest running life and superior lubrication. I use Shell Rotella T5 10W-40 for Texas climate.
I use conventional 20W-50 VR1 for oil, love it.
I've used 15w50 Mobil 1 with no problems. It wasn't bad. It acctually good. But, it didn't make one bit difference, so I've used it only once, and went back to the regular 0w40 Mobil 1.
