He may be using it for the 15w40 weight for noise or lower oil pressure. I ran Rotella in my 94 F150 with the 5.8l gas engine because I bought it with a slight knock. After a while I dropped down to the 10w30 Rotella and ran it for year, lifted mud truck driven daily and in the woods on weekends. It will be fine, just get some clarification on why. I currently run Rotella 10w30 in my 4.2l Envoy.
Owner reviews for engine oil
Pick one oil and run it for life preferably liqui moly , I hear these particular engines need one oil for life , drive her hard sometimes should be fine
Total Quartz is really good value esp Quartz 9000 that is top rated API grade im 0w20 full syn
I use Pennzoil Platinum. It's made from natural gas, a cleaner base than crude. My engine loves it. Minimal consumption between oil changes and no leaks.
I run 5w30 liquimoly molygen since i tow a lot on my 2019 5.3
Oil pressures are happy and so far so good.
I always used LM 5w40 in my m62tu
Never had any issues and seemed to be a high quality brand
I went with Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w-30. 20k on the clock of my 2023 and it doesn’t burn a drop of oil. I changed the oil at 1k and 3k after that and it always comes out looking beautifully.
I'm using mannol extreme 5 W 40, very good price quality.
Nah you're fine. BMW engines are known for using some oil. Even 1l on 5k km is not much, even the dealership considers this as normal.
HP Prolube is a very low quality oil compared to other oil brands in the market. Castrol has good head sound dampening, as does Rowe, both great for gear shifts and clutch feel.
