OEM Honda Timing belt

Check with the Honda dealer, you might be surprised to find out that the timing belt, water pump, tensioner etc (105,000 mile maintenance) job costs less than $2000. My dealer here charges like $1600 last I checked (though that was a few years ago) Upside to having the Honda dealer do it is you’ll guaranteed get OEM parts and they probably have a lot more experience because they do those jobs all the time.

Pros: OEM parts, experienced dealer
Cons: dealer prices can be high
Mileage: 105000 km

OEM Toyota Timing belt

XV20 Camrys never die. My 97 is at 238k, recently just did spark plugs and wires, did valve cover gasket and water pump/timing belt at like 200k. Running strong and smooth. Regular maintenance on these cars is easy and cheaper than a car note.

Pros: running strong and smooth, easy maintenance
Cons: requires regular maintenance
Vehicle: Toyota Camry
Mileage: 200000 km

OEM FORD Timing belt

it's usually the plan with all my cars until repairs become more expensive than payments. our last car was an 2006 vw jetta tdi. sold it a few years ago (18 years old). it was still running fine-ish but a lot of things were coming up. timing belt and water pump, suspension overhaul, wheel bearings, brakes and caliper rebuild, and it was getting quite a bit of rust all around. it would have lasted and gone for 5+ more years but with 2 young kids getting into sports and stuff and the winter weather we are getting in our new home, it was a smart move to get a truck. with the aluminum body and ease of getting parts for the truck for maintenance as well as the f150 and coyote community, keeping the truck running for a long time should be easy.

Pros: ease of getting parts, keeping truck running
Cons: timing belt issues, suspension overhaul
Vehicle: Ford

OEM Volvo Timing belt

I bought the same 2012 S60 but a T5 for $5000 in August with 124k miles. It was a single owner vehicle with great maintenance records and my mechanic gave it a once over. I had to replace the timing belt and will probably need to replace the AC compressor next summer. I expect you'll need to do the timing belt too, and maybe some other things noted in the service manual, but even with $4k of work, you'll be well below your budget. I honestly smile every time I drive it, it's a blast.

Pros: blast to drive
Cons: replace timing belt
Vehicle: Volvo S60

Personally I use the gates blue racing T-belt, I've had a belt snap prematurely and it was within a few months of owning my e30. Belt was only 4 or 5 years old too.

Cons: snapped prematurely, short lifespan

The timing belt failed kindly early 65k later, so could have been bogus Aisin parts.

Cons: failed early, bogus parts
Vehicle: Honda Odyssey
Mileage: 65000 km
