Alternator Bosch or Denso
I'm guessing you could be Australian the labour charge would be somewhere between 120 and 150 per hour plus parts which retail close to 550 for a good quality Bosch unit so your not too far off the mark with the quote.
Go for a Denso alternator if they have it.
I have only rudimentary experience working on cars, but I got the OEM Bosch for like 300 (less core return deposit after I mailed back the old core). Took me about an hour or so to replace myself.
My ‘09 highlander needed one about a year ago around 150k and my local shop put in a reman Denso for way less than a new Denso. Good warranty on it, too.
I believe the OEM for the alternator is Denso. If you can get one of those it’ll probably go another 230k
Get a Denso reman from RockAuto. It is the same as OEM Denso and is <$200 with core return.
Denso if you can find it. It will last another 25 years
Fix that, then replace with a reman Denso alternator from RockAuto.
I want to replace the alternator myself, but I can't find where to get OEM parts for a reasonable price. The dealership is charging $340 for the part and the best I can find is this [Bosch alternator](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001C64QHE/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=TXMF4LHVIWCE&coliid=IN63F3OG0M77W) on Amazon which they state is new, but it seems like all Bosch alternators are remanufactured. Why is it so damn complicated to find high-quality replacement alternators?!
So I bought a new alternator off of Rock Auto that I was amazed that I had to re-use my old pulley? But when I went to put the pulley on, the nut stripped on the new alternator like instantly. The whole ordeal is trash
