Alternator Denso or Duralast
Denso alternators are the best. Denso makes great products. I do a lot of side work on Hondas and I am so thankful Denso offers their stuff outside of the dealership. I replace alternators, a/c compressors, oxygen sensors, etc all the time and I choose Denso bc it's basically the same exact part you receive in a Honda box but for half the price.
If the alternator is OEM, replace it, because is close to the exhaust manifold, it will fail sooner than later.
If you are replacing the alternator, strongly recommend using only Honda dealer sold remanufactured alternators (probably Denso) or an aftermarket Denso brand remanufactured alternator. Lots of problems reported with other brands.
Autozone one here. 3 years deep going strong
If you’re gonna go through the effort of replacing the alternator, do NOT get cheap shit. Get a new/remanufactured Denso alternator.
Denso alternator is my go to choice for that vehicle.
For my personal vehicles, I replace alternators at 100K with Remy or Denso new alternators and have never had an issue and I save a lot of money by waiting a couple of days.
Purchase a new or remanufactured Denso or TYC alternator. Most others are a roll of the dice in terms of lasting longer than 12months.
It was in fact a Duralast dud! One more example of a “new” alternator being broken out of the box.
I had a new remanufactured duralast alternator as well that I thought was defective but I kept following the power cable off the alternator and found the fusible link.
