Brake caliper Brembo or OEM Volkswagen
I need brakes for the front. I'm a whore for big brakes and have a few OEM options to pick from. I was going to use some 312mm from the Golf 4motion but I dug out a MK4 R32 set in need of a rebuild. They're 334mm with twin piston calipers so should look good behind whatever wheels I pick and also stop good.
I have 2006 porsche cayenne turbo calipers on my r32 skyline. It's a simple bracket that allows you to use 370z track rotors. The calipers are 6 piston brembo units. They were 100 CAD each at a specialty wreckers.
Install was easy, just as planned. This kit is refurbished oe calipers powder coated red. Nothing over the top but they look much better than the bare metal factory calipers. I have driven less than 50 miles so far but initial impression is great. Nice and smooth, they seem to catch a little lower on the pedal but that can be due to how fresh they are and still removing the coating on the rotors. Since the rotors are drilled and slotted there is a little noise but I suspect that will go away after my 80 mile commute tomorrow. Happy to report the pulsating is gone and braking performance is much better now.
I'm running the '14 STI front/rear Brembo calipers with DBA slotted rotors and EBC Yellow pads with steel braided lines. And Motul 5.1 fluid. I can pretty much out brake everyone in to the turns at the track or touge.
Also have Porsche 997 GT3 brake cooling ducts installed (yes they fit). I have zero heat/fading issues. The brakes can do hot laps for a full 20mins track session with no performance lost.
Z33 Track Pack 324x30 front rotors + CTS-V 4pot Brembos and adapters. Z33 Track Pack 322x22 rear rotors + Z33 2pot Brembos modified to fit S13 knuckles.
these older calipers are notorious for binding up on the ebrake actuator go get a newer pair at the junkyard new design is better.
I feel no difference in pedal feel or stopping distance. It's the aesthetics that made the difference for me.
I replaced both rear calipers, pads and both electro mechanical parking brake motors on my 2009 Tiguan. Now the yellow 'P' dashboard symbol is always on.
I have them on our vdub touareg and have had to rebuild them twice due to pistons seizing.
Just wanted to update this thread. I too have a 2013 vw beetle. I originally put on the mk5 r32 front calipers which was rubbing on my rims. They were squeaky and the brake response was way too much when just pulling out when first started.
