Akebono Brake pads

With some research I decided to order Akebono EUR1348. Just for the rear. I think the fronts are ok for now. I know the fronts usually wear out sooner, but I think they were originally replaced by the previous owner - just not the rears.

Pros: good for rear brakes
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Part number: EUR1348

EBC Brake pads

Alright, I appreciate everyone's feedback. I checked out RockAuto, and they have good deals... BUT, the shipping kind of kills it. (I put together pads/rotors, and the shipping was nearly $100 with each part coming from a different warehouse.). Somebody told me to get EBC Redstuff pads, which I hear is good. I checked Amazon but couldn't find any that fit my car (BUT I hear their 'Does this fit my car' tool doesn't work well.). Another site said that EBC DP32075C fit's the Jetta S.... But it also says 'With bosch calibers'. Is their an easy way to tell if mine came with Bosch Calibers (Or were they even an option on Jettas?)? Sorry for all the questions... And thanks again for all the help. I never realized how hard it would be to find decent brakes for a newer car.

Pros: good deals, good reputation
Cons: high shipping costs, fitment uncertainty
Part number: DP32075C

Akebono Brake pads

The stock pads on my 3.6 4-motion were made by Pagid and were very sensitive and dusty. I changed out the fronts only to Akebono Euro Ceramics and I like the feel much better. Plus, they don't dust at all.

Pros: feel much better, don't dust
Cons: very sensitive, dusty

Get EBC Red Stuffs, not Green Stuffs. The Red's will give you better stopping power with MUCH less brake dust.

Pros: better stopping power, less dust

I went with the Red Stuff pads and they have been noise free and stop on a dime. Very low dust, especially when used with the armor all wheel protector.

Pros: noise free, stop well
Cons: none

I went from stock pads to redstuff, and the brake dust is about 1/4 to 1/3 of what it was. The stock pad's dust was really hard to remove as well. The redstuff pad dust, the little that is there come off easily. I do find that the redstuff pads quickly heat up the calipers though and they tend to fade more then with the stock pads.

Pros: less brake dust, easy removal
Cons: heat up calipers, fade

  • Braking:

I've run the Akebono ceramics on a few cars. They don't have a great initial bite but they do have good stopping power in most conditions. My only note against them is that it can get scary with heavy braking while driving long distances on the highway in sub-40 degree rain - I've had multiple times in two different cars where there's a solid 2 second delay between pressing the pedal hard and them actually biting in those conditions.

Pros: good stopping power
Cons: no great initial bite

Don't buy EBC greens for the van. I put a full set on and the van has horrible braking performance before the pads heat up, which we almost never do. Cold pad performance is almost dangerous. Get something with more initial bite.

Pros: more initial bite needed
Cons: horrible braking performance
Vehicle: Volkswagen
