Brake pads Textar or Mintex
I just daily my 17 GTI. The stock pads and rotors finally gave up at 103k miles. I was perfectly happy with the oem brakes, but not spending $700. I went Zimmerman and Texstar pads. So far no complaints, they feel like the stock brakes when they were new.

I got genuine discs from ML performance for much much less than dealer prices, coupled with textar pads made to the same spec as M4 pads (M4 pads are also a drop in upgrade, I believe textar is OE for M4 pads), noticed minimal difference in performance though.
I've been running the stock brakes with aftermarket pads for a few years and it's worked well for me. Mintex 1144, Ferodo DS2500 and Roddisons pads have all been great.
I used Mintex 1144 on my MK7.5 ST. Were great for fast road and some Nurburgring laps in a year.

Around 12k miles, the anti-rattle decal on the left front Textar pads melted and which made them rattle in the caliper over bumps. FCP Euro exchanged them for Pagid pads and no problem since. Rear Textar pads have been fine.
I replaced my brake pads with Textar pads and they are squealing so bad that it is embarrassing to drive it around town. If you are standing outside the car it hurts your ears. I had Porsche sand down the edges of the discs and this has helped a little but not to the point I am satisfied. Although the pads are only a month old I have decided to replace them with another brand.
Textar is hot garbage these days unfortunately
so much dust with textar pads on Zimmerman rotors. 3 weeks later my alloys are black.
