Cabin filter Mann or K&N
FCP Euro has a lifetime replacement on parts from them, just buy from them and get free replacements of the currently available filters.
I got a K&N washable filter. It’s got the wire mesh that keeps them out. Haven’t had any issues since installing it.
I have bought and installed air and cabin filters from K&N. Perfect fit, washable and last years when cleaned properly.
Go for the K&N cabin filter and you'll never go back to those paper ones.

The air in my Arteon is starting to smell so I bought a new fancy Mann cabin filter from Pelican. All good so far.
With the special Castrol LL VW 50700 Diesel recommended oil and Mann filter, it costs me $35-40 myself. If you are in warranty though, it may be best to dealer service because despite legislation, it is worlds easier if you need warranty work and can prove you had it done at a franchised VW dealer.
Cabin Air Filters aka the Pollen filter they tried to sell you is remedial classes easy to change in most cars. My MK6 JSW was maybe 5 minutes with no tools? Cost was $10ish dollars for a Charcoal filter too.
Cabin filter I swapped out for a MANN filter so I could enable Air Care.

Treat yourself to a washable K&N Cabin Filter. The filter and cleaning kit quickly pay for themselves. I clean mine every 6 months just cause.
I thought the real issue was the fact that the Atlas cabin filter is just paper, whereas they used to use carbon filter in other, older models. Thus, all outside smells can easily be entered into the cabin.
