Clutch kit Sachs or Exedy
176k, Porsche 944. Throwout bearing went before the rubber center did, honestly the clutch was still fine. New Sachs kit in it now. That transaxle clutch job is a doozy.
Sachs clutch kit is the way to go. I've installed several in Z3's, and every one of them had a great feel. The kit comes with everything you'll need besides tools, although I'd replace the clutch fork pivot pin while in there.
I got the Sachs clutch kit with a ecs light weight flywheel I think it’s a stage 1 kit super smooth so far kinda pricey but I’ve dealt with cheap and I didn’t like it.
Just stick to OEM. The OEM clutch is good for 500+ horsepower and you will be making no where near that. Its only $230 for the sachs clutch kit on FCP Euro
I have the kit from darkside on my mk7 (organic plates, “HD DMF”), Malone stage 2. Have about 100k on it since install, no issues or slipping. Clutch pedal is definitely heavier than stock. If you get on it in low rpms, there is still some dmf shudder.
Exedy = OEM, I'd take that over ANY other manufacturers for the platform other than Nismo.
I've been rocking the Exedy kit for about a year now, very happy with it. It's responsive enough where I can have fun, still light but with no chatter. I've driven a 2 stage clutch Z33 before and it was way too heavy for for DD imo. Can't speak on Z1, but I love exedy.
I ordered the exedy OE clutch kit from ftspeed. About to have it installed next week. And although it doesn't have the white paint dot on it, I seen a comparison between the new and old and it looks like the new. The two tabs don't have the cutout in it like the old one does
I know a lot of folks swear by Exedy, however the one and only Exedy clutch I have ever used is in my 06 and it shudders like crazy. I like LUK and have used a dozen times without issue.
I ran the Performance kit and by 4 months in it was slipping badly. This is after a break in period of 500mi (city driving) before running any significant power through it. I don't beat on the clutch by launching it or dropping it. I kept the OEM flywheel with this kit. It's also very heavy, and you definitely feel it in the pedal. Overall I wasn't satisfied with this kit.
