Engine oil Mobil or VALVOLINE
I used to use Rotella T4 as recommended by many on the forums. It was fine but I switched to Valvoline 20w50 because it has the additional Zinc like the Rotella T4, and a bit better film strength which protects bearings at high RPM.
I used Mobil 1 for 20+years but now I’m using liquid moly because it’s pretty much free with fcp
Its perfectly fine. More likely their vehicle fitment data for your car is wrong, not you. I use Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy in my NX, and used it for years in my previous RX.
I’ve had good luck running Valvoline VR-1 in engines with flat tappet cams.
Valvoline VR1 in whatever viscosity is suitable for the season and the VR1 has plenty of zinc for old engines.
I do 20k miles oil change interval on my RAV4. I use Mobile 1 extended performance and Fram Ultra filter. No problem at all
If you’re burning any oil 20w-50 valvoline racing full synthetic. If everything is good and oil 10w30 full synthetic
I use Mobil 1 ESP X2.
Available at Walmart.
It is approved by Mercedes and VW, it also meets the BMW requirement but is not approved by them.
I found Mobil 1 0W-40 to allow a lot more timing chain and lifter noise, especially at startup but even after, then switched to Castrol Edge 5W-40 and the noise suddenly wasn't there. I've used it ever since.
I just go to crappy Grease Monkey and do full synthetic Mobil 1 for like $100.00. Then I drive home, and double check their work.
