Fuel filter Mann or OEM Volkswagen
I use Mann filter. They're trustworthy and not very expensive either
finished running the fuel lines too the rear and mounted the fuel filter housing with a new filter
I am a sucker for Mann so I bought it. Took out the old filter, and no fuel coming from inside the filter. Slammed it couple of times and finally the fuel came out, black. It’s literally like black coffee coming out from the filter. Installed the new fuel filter, and cranked the car couple of time to let the fuel pumped to the engine. And finally it starts, but it misfired here and there. Crank it couple more times and it starts normally. The idle is absolutely silky smooth. And the performance improved a lot.
At 100k miles it is time to replace the fuel filter. It is pretty easy to do, just pay attention to how the hoses release by pushing in at certain spots on the connector to not break them.
go to any auto shop and ask for a fuel filter for a seventies Volkswagen beetle.
For my TDI it's literally just a standard oil change, and then fuel filter every 20k miles. Hardly an additional burden.
i did add a dipstick fuel filter looked to be newer, plausible considering the somewhat recent pump and injector service, but figured "while im in there..."
Mann from ECS for me. Every other filter change I pull what fuel is left in the housing, refill with your diesel treatment of choice and then prime. For me it’s just a bit of extra lube for the pump on my ‘14 JSW. When I skip this step I don’t prime and never had an issue.
I never had anything suspicious looking in any of my fuel filter changes on our 2012 JSW... always looked perfectly clean. HPFP failed without warning at 91k.
I started to look at the fuel filter that I put in and noticed that people have been talking about different pressure regulators in the filters, I thought that maybe I put in the wrong one and someone else had done this before. So I changed the filter out for the latest VW OEM 6.6 Bar filter. Again this made an slight improvement
