Oil filter Fram or Hengst
My E550 gets M1 0W40 every 5k, with a new fleece Hengst filter. I don't drive it hard until I see past 80C on the water temp (I don't have an oil temp gauge- only the E63s do). Basically the same procedure I use on my S54 BMWs, and every performance car I've ever owned
Ran whatever fram filter they had. Regular, tough guard and the synthetic. Over 500,000 km doing synthetic oil and a fram filter every 15,000km. It’s still going. That’s over 40 fram filters, never had a problem
I use a FRAM filter for my civic.
I use my own oil from Walmart. Supertech Advanced Mileage and a Fram Ultra Filter.
I have used Fram, AC Delco, K&N, and Napa Gold. I had issue with the body breaking down on Fram and K&N. I stick to AC Delco so it keeps as close to OEM as possible.
I’ve worked on Subarus for over 20 years now and almost every blowed engine has a fram oil filter on it. Easily 75%
Using a cheap (fram) oil filter is a recipe for disaster, because those filters fail internally, and either go into bypass mode, or the internals of the filter grenade, and go directly into the crankshaft bearings.
Stay away from fram as the name is just ruined in many peoples eyes. I wouldn't buy something for good money with fram on it.
Fram Air filters: Their OEM filters are the absolutely best while the exact same filters with a "Fram" label are manufacturing rejects. Kinked pleats, misaligned bracing screen, holes in the gasket, missing glue, etc.
Fram Oil filters: Nope. Few pleats and not very strong. You can find lots of test and teardown videos. I've had past problems with the gasket swelling so badly that the filter has to be torched off.
I've just experienced this same problem with my 2017 Buick. I have the UFI cap and the dealers used the Hengst filter 7 of the 9 times I had it changed at the dealer. Using a Hengst filter in the UFI cap results in the oil bypassing the oil filter all the time. The UFI cap expects the bypass valve to be on the filter and the Hengst filter just has an open hole there resulting in the car being run for about 50,000 of its 70,000 mile life WITHOUT an oil filter.
