If a 2nd opinion actually confirms that shocks/struts are worn, my approach would be to replace with upgrade - Koni or Bilstein. Not much different than what you're being quoted cost-wise and easily run for 100k mi +. I think my ride/handling improved with Koni Yellow and Eibach springs on my 2019, though it's definitely more GTi/R and less "plush" than stock eGolf.

Pros: improved ride/handling
Cons: less "plush" than stock
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 55000 km

When I recieved the car, it needed brakes immediately. I then proceeded to go through the whole car. Especially the underside. I removed the entire front and rear suspension along with the rear subframe. Replaced all arms including upgrading to the R129 front lowers which allow clearance for bigger brakes, bushings, ball joints, tie rods, center drag link, engine and trans mounts, C/V axles, flex disc, front and rear brakes and larger rear sway bar with metal links. I lowered the car with H&R non SLS springs and Koni shocks.

Pros: improved handling

I went the 5160/6112 route and love them. Coming from stock suspension for the first 50k it was amazing offroad but really helped with the on-road nosedive and with upgrade springs in the rear helped tremendously with the sag from my rtt trailer.

Pros: amazing offroad, helped nosedive
Mileage: 50000 km

I’ll at least give them points for wanting to use top quality components. Bilstein are nothing short of the best when it comes to shock absorbers.

Pros: top quality components

  • Bottoming:

I've been using the Koni Golds (FSD) for many thousands of miles. They are really really good at 80mph, but in town they shake my teeth loose and bump and klunk like crazy.

Pros: good at 80mph
Cons: shake teeth loose, bump and klunk in town
