Shock absorbers KYB or KONI
My roads are also NOT well maintained and the Koni shocks/struts are more comfortable than the M-Sport shocks/struts I started with.
I did my Prius with KYB after the stock parts started seeping after 160k. I’m at 210k now and they are still good.
We did just replace the original shocks though. Went cheap with KYB but the ride quality improved tremendously over the worn out shocks.
The ride is "smoother" as in it doesn't bounce nearly as much when taking bumps. It's easier to control. Daughter noticed right away and said it's not throwing her all over the place. Cornering is far better since it doesn't want to roll as much.
If a 2nd opinion actually confirms that shocks/struts are worn, my approach would be to replace with upgrade - Koni or Bilstein. Not much different than what you're being quoted cost-wise and easily run for 100k mi +. I think my ride/handling improved with Koni Yellow and Eibach springs on my 2019, though it's definitely more GTi/R and less "plush" than stock eGolf.
When I recieved the car, it needed brakes immediately. I then proceeded to go through the whole car. Especially the underside. I removed the entire front and rear suspension along with the rear subframe. Replaced all arms including upgrading to the R129 front lowers which allow clearance for bigger brakes, bushings, ball joints, tie rods, center drag link, engine and trans mounts, C/V axles, flex disc, front and rear brakes and larger rear sway bar with metal links. I lowered the car with H&R non SLS springs and Koni shocks.
I bought a few parts back off of it, including the nearly new KYB shocks I put on it that I then put on my sg(they were sg shocks).
I have been running koni yellows with oem springs. Great for daily
recently upgraded all 4 shocks, if you’re looking for something for better performance go for kyb, tein, or monroe.
Kyb suck and monroe isnt too much better. I ended up paying out the nose for OEM shocks on my truck and I'm glad I did
I have a K1500 with the 6.5 diesel. It rides like literal shit. I bought the Koni Red adjustable shocks to try and deal with it. It also rode like shit with the factory bilsteins everyone uses as a go to
