KONI Shock absorbers

I had a spongy pedal and after a good flush and bleed my pedal is rock solid. I do have a bit of travel before the brakes grab though, almost like 1/2-3/4 of a inch of free play before anything happens. is that about what you are having?

Pros: pedal is rock solid
Cons: bit of travel
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 175000 km

I used koni sports on my mk4 and they were awesome. Front and rear adjustable. It takes a couple days of adjusting to get them how you like them.

Pros: awesome performance, front and rear adjustable
Cons: takes days to adjust

I have the Koni Special Actives with the R wagon springs. I love them. They work as advertised; they're more plush over small and mid-sized bumps, offer much better damping over large bumps, and they stiffen up nicely when pushed in the corners. For a road car I really think these are the best option out there. One thing about them though is that they're over-damped if you're too low. They work great with the R wagon springs, but I'm not sure they'll work well if you're any lower.

Pros: plush over bumps, better damping, stiffen in corners
Cons: over-damped if too low
Part number: SPECIAL ACTIVES

I have the rear yellows. They're great paired with stock springs. Unfortunately they must be removed to adjust.

Pros: great with stock springs
Cons: must be removed to adjust

KONI Shock absorbers

I went with the Koni Yellow / H&R spring combo on my 330xi. The handling was great (with a beefier rear sway bar) and the ride was VERY firm. I think the drop *amount* was perfect though.

Pros: great handling
Cons: ride was VERY firm
Vehicle: BMW

Those were just replaced with koni yellows and neuspeed sports. I like the ride height with these. I have used these same springs in the past with boge turbogas dampers. The konis certainly ride better and I hope last much longer.

Pros: better ride, good height

I opted to go w/the following: Golf R springs (euro wagon rears form E-ACCA), Koni Special Actives, Golf R bumpstops. I have about 5K on the setup, and absolutely love it. The tire-to-wheel cap is around 38mm front and rear, and there's very little sag with a loaded boot.

Pros: absolutely love it, very little sag
Mileage: 8047 km
Part number: SPECIAL ACTIVES

Based on the information learned from 40+ pages of reading in that thread, I just installed Koni Yellows and Neuspeed Sport springs on mine. It is now a totally different car. I had been running stock dampers with VWR springs for the last 3 years (zero improvement in handling with VWR springs by the way). The konis are damped / valved nice and taut without being harsh.

Pros: nice and taut, not harsh
Vehicle: Volkswagen

In all seriousness, in my experience KYB shocks and struts are merely adequate. This is subjective, but they've always felt fairly harsh to me, in numerous different cars.

Pros: merely adequate
Cons: felt fairly harsh

I kinda just went through it when we got it...new shocks (not really happy with the KYB I got, and wish I got new springs, too).

Cons: not really happy
