Tires BFGoodrich or Goodyear
Bfg at's. Great in nothing, decent in everything. My favourite all around tire, that doesn't have any drawbacks.
Continental Extreme Contact for winter and Goodyear Eagle Sport all season. Was expecting to remove the seasonal tires but have not done so in last 2 years. Seventy percent highway/ thirty city. Very good tire in snow and ice. Was not expecting that. Benefits: gas mileage up about 50km per tank, better handling on pavement (less mushy on highway) due to less sipes in tread. Great handling less body roll, crisp cornering.
BFG comp 2 a/s
I have Firestone Winterforce tires on 15" Forester wheels for the winter set and Goodyear Assurance all seasons on 16" impreza wheels for summer tires.
Love my BF-Goodrich G-Force Comp 2 A/S.
Goodyear Supercar 3 needs the most heat. The stickiest of the three. Good trackable street tire.
I went with the G-Force Comp-2 A/S and paid something like $703 after installation, which also included a road hazard warranty. I found a really good deal and could have gotten some alternatives even cheaper, but the tire was the highest ranked in its category on TireRack. No regrets with the purchase, as these tires significantly outperform the Continental OEMs.
Goodyear Assurance Triple-tread tires (really love these in the snow/wet, great daily tires!)
I worked at Goodyear for 3 years and you are partially correct. Their quality isn't bad across the board, it is just not consistent. Some are great and last way longer than they should while others are just junk. I had 2 Ultra Grip Winters blow out on me a few hours apart (2 days after they were mounted).
I have Eagle F1's on my 986 and am totally underwhelmed.
