These I am running on my 7 R actually (225/40/18) and had them on my 6 R as well for the last winter. I can highly recommend this tire cause it's good in wet and snowy conditions and in addition very 'sporty' (for a winter tire) if you have dry conditions in winter. Probably the best winter tire I ever had.
And I agree about the 3D wintersport tires. They can grip in cold temps but not suck in the summer. I had them on my wife's TSX through 4 NE winters. Great tire.
I have dunlop 3ds now and they are great in the dry. Really hard to tell you're on snow tires.
I love running Dunlop Wintersport 3D's and 4D's on performance cars. They don't feel like winter tires at all when the roads are clean. They offer dry/warm grip on par with performance tires.
I am running 17x8 +45 Neuspeed RSe05 with 245/40R17 Hankook RS-3's with no problems
I get lucky out of the blue one day and luck into a set of virtually free new take off Hankooks from another new Jetta. I ditch the Contis and put on the Hankooks. HOLY COW. Drives like the car should have from day one.
I'd get Dunlop Q3's. Q3's have more grip than you'll ever need. They warm up fast(1 lap on the track, or a couple of minutes on the street), grip extremely well, and talk decently well for a street tire.
I have Dunlop Graspic DS-3s on my car in the winter and they perform quite well on dry and wet pavement. They are a bit more slippy and the feel is a bit more muddy
Riding on Pirellis Cinturatos P7 now. IMO best tire for the Passat. The hankooks had no grip even in very light snow. Rain driving was scary, loud on highway. I couldn't risk driving my family with them.
I have the same tires on the Mazda3 and their wet performance is sh*t IMO.
