MICHELIN Tires

I don't know about the Dunlops, but my fiance's Protege had a set of Pilot Alpins last winter, and they worked nicely. Dry handling was also very very good. I'm sure they don't give as much grip as a lower-speed rated tire, but they were still very safe and very stable in the snow.

Pros: Dry handling very good
Cons: less grip
Vehicle: Mazda Protege

A friend of mine who lives outside of Chelsea, MI has a Saturn SC2 that rides on Pilot Alpins in the winter. He says those tires are pretty darned good and perfect for the kind of snow that falls around Ann Arbor

Pros: pretty darned good

I've got Michelin Pilot XGT H4s on my 'roc... They're holding up reqally well, they're three years old now and still have lots of tread left on them, they're awesome in the rain too which is a good thing 'cos I live in Raincouver

The car still has the stock Michelin MXV4 Plus 205/55 16H tires. I do not dispute that true snow tires outperform them. These tires suffice for both good and bad weather until one obtains more specialized sets for the seasons one encounters in their area. I plan on getting 17x8 wheels with Kumho 712s for the summer, and going with these for the winter until they wear out. Regardless, 4Mo provides superior safety and handling in any situation.

Pros: suffice for good and bad weather, superior safety and handling

Well, I had a set of XGT V4 (not on my dub) before they came out with the Pilot XGT V4 and they handled pretty well. But, they were bald in appox. 20k miles. So, I replaced them with the Khumo ECSTA Supra 712's. They were awesome, they handled much better than the XGT's and were much cheaper.

Pros: handled pretty well, much cheaper
Cons: bald in 20k miles
Mileage: 32186 km

MICHELIN Tires

I had the same question and just checked mine. From the dealership I had appx 42 PSI front and 44 PSI rear (cold). As this didn't match the gas door recommendations. I called the dealer's (Chapman, Scottsdale AZ) service department. The front desk finally transferred me to the tire shop (note Chapman also sells BMW and Dodge) the helpful technician listened to my specifications and question and responded that he recommends 38 PSI front and rear in Phoenix. For all vehicles with similar low profile tires. He was very specific about location (asked me if I lived here in town). I'm guessing that's due to our good old dry heat here. Anyhow that's what I set mine to. regards, Ken

Pros: recommends 38 PSI front/rear
Cons: 42/44 PSI from dealership

I've had both now (99 with Michelins, 03 with Contis). I agree, I think the Michelins \"look\" more sporty (for lack of a better term), but for driving performance, so far I find them fairly equivalent (which is not suprising since they get extremely similar ratings at tirerack.com). Both suck in comparison to the Bridgestones I had put on my 99 tho. (IMO)

Pros: look more sporty
Cons: suck in comparison
Mileage: 643 km

Those tires suck a$$. Years back I bought a Supra Turbo with them as OEM tires. It wasn't hard to break the tires loose with some hard acceleration in the dry, in the wet I'd make a quick shift to 2nd and then 3rd to keep the car from squirming all over the road under moderate throttle. Of course it didn't take long to wear them out.

Cons: easy to break loose, wore out quickly
