Nexen winguard sport 2 have been just fine for me.
I put Nexen Roadian AT Pro RA8 on instead (they were on sale and had white letter sidewalls, I am old school) and honestly I haven't regretted it at all... I do some off-roading and deal with pretty severe winters and snow and the Nexens have been very good in those conditions and I have put a fair amount of interstate highway miles on them and they run nice and quiet.
I put General Altimax 365AW on my Volt and I love them. They are like winter level tires you can drive all year. They’re quiet and I didn’t notice an impact on the range.
I went with the Nexens and have been very pleased.
Nexen like all brands make different levels of tires. If you decide to buy the cheap ones your results will be indeed be bad. I bought a nicer tire that they make and have had no issues with them. It's actually the best ride quality I've had in my car. They drive better than Dunlop and Pirrelli P-Zero I had in the past.
Get general Altimax if you’re looking for good value
I just replaced my General Altimax 43s with Hankooks and I miss them. The General's were pretty decent in the snow and I had better gas mileage than I have now with the Hankooks. The only downside was they only lasted about 60,000 miles.
I have the General Altimax on my 2000 Toyota Celica GT-S, and they are always surprised to hear I have been about 60k miles on them and the tread is still viable to pass inspection etc.
quite good in wet braking but lack a bit in comfort.
They are great when they are new but as you put miles on them and the tread wears I thought they sucked. I replaced my generals with about half tread life because in the rain they liked to hydroplan.
