Turbocharger OEM Volkswagen or Garrett
Yes, its great! Off the bat the car has a bit more character, the exhaust note has a slightly different tone to it, you get more pop and crackle on the shifts and you hear more turbo noise. The powerband is smoother, stock it seemed peaky and fell off a bit towards redline, with this setup it just keeps pulling much harder. Overall, totally worth it!
Around 82k I went with a full gtx3071r... My car now has 110k and still runs like a champ. I drive it hard. I roll race it. I take it to the drag strip. It’s seen countless rolling antilag and NLS. Never a days problem never even a CEL in its life. I’d drive it anywhere
I had to. my stock turbos started leaking (common issue for Gen 1 EcoBoosts apparently).
Now when I hit the gas at 70 to pass an 18-wheeler, it's all pedal man. She just keeps giving.
You might of seen my thread about my blown turbo. I'm almost certain my Garrett GT28RS Turbocharger is blown and looking into possible replacements. This is the specs on this one. It flows nice and was really good for my current setup.
After the past year and 11k miles, I remain convinced we bought the right powertrain combination. Our situation is a bit uncommon in that we live at about 6000 feet elevation (Rocky Mountains). We cross higher mountain passes on a regular basis. This definitely amplifies the advantages of turbocharging. At high altitude, the 2.0T is substantially faster than the 3.6 VR6.
Yesterday I tackled the IS20 installation. It took about 4-5 hours and overall wasn't too difficult. The car definitely feels better. It should've come like this from the factory!
They do.
Mine has over 200k now, still running the stock turbo. I will probably keep this car for awhile.
Fantastic looking turbo, never looked into them before. The map is slightly inferior to the GTX2867R's map though.
Mine just let go at 161400
