I’ve never had better blades in my 18 than the OEMs. Anything else need a clunky adapter, and none of them have worked as well.
Reviews of spare parts for Subaru
Those falken stock tires on my Trek got me everywhere so far! Never put air in them once just trekking through everything just all seasons and took the snow like a champ.
Judging by the comments no one likes the Geolandar G015s anymore, but I'm on my second set now and have loved them the whole time.
I really liked the Hawk HPS 5.0s on my WRX. Good enough for the track and plenty comfortable for the street
You should be fine if you have kept up with normal maintenance . Some ideas of proactive things you can do.
1. Get your oil changed right before trip - start fresh.
2. Ask your dealer for an “multi point inspection.” My local does not charge. Idea is to make sure belts, fluids, no leaks, brakes all in good shape. Ask if they can specifically check / listen to the water pump.
3. If you have never flushed the brake fluid (replace) ask if you should. The reason to flush/change your brake fluid, isn’t because it “wears out” but because it becomes contaminated with moisture. Usually done every 30K miles.
I would also make sure that every time you fill up the gas you check the oil dipstick and if it’s a little low top off the oil. In fact, I think this is probably crucial to owning an older Subaru like mine mine has 300 K.
I second those saying bring a spare quart of oil. I wouldn't be too worried about taking my 2012 Outback at 170K miles on such a trip...but would agree check the oil every 1000 miles or every morning (depending how far you go in a day) just to make sure it isn't getting low.
0w20 provides your engine with more wear protection .
There is minimal difference between 0w16 and 0w20, with 0w20 provided marginally better wear protection and 0w16 providing slightly better fuel efficiency since it's slightly thinner and provides less internal resistance.
My 02 Impreza has multiple big cracks and a million chips, I've just been ignoring it for the last 10 years...
My forester XT was WAY worse though because eyesight needs thinner or softer glass
