Toyota sells an OEM camera that goes to the left of the big radar box behind the mirror. They don't have a rear camera in the US, the OEM is expensive and not the highest quality, and the app is klunky. I had THINKWARE U3000 Pro front and rear installed in CSL. These have excellent quality and are the best parking mode for recording someone hitting your car without draining the battery. Viofo A329 is a very highly rated option.
Reviews of spare parts for Toyota
My 2018 corolla lasted for 160k miles with zero issues before a truck crashed into me. CVT never let me down.
I used to be a Toyota tech and it was very rare for them to fail, except for the CH-R (which in my opinion is one of the worst Toyotas you can buy). Only ones I saw fail besides those were on very few Corollas with the direct shift CVT. And when I say very few I mean maybe 2-3 per year. The previous gen CVT was basically bulletproof. They are NOWHERE NEAR as bad as Nissans JATCO transmissions.
I have a 2006 corolla, had same problem, just bought a new denso starter and no more troubles. Very easy to put the new one on actually, remove the fan on the front first for more space
Been dealing with Toyota's CVT's since the first 2014 Corolla.
Overall they've been extremely reliable with basic maintenance. I've changed Corolla CVT's two under warranty, one at 80,000 KM because the torque convertor seal was leaking and Toyota didn't offer a replacement at the time so it got an entirely new CVT instead. The second was last year, it hadn't been to a dealer in a decade, hadn't had a Limited Service Campaign (LSC) done nor had it ever had the fluid changed. At 220,000 KM I replaced it under warranty because it had failed likely due to not having the LSC done combined with the original fluid.
I've done a few CH-R CVT's under warranty, the Turkey built ones in particular have been problems and there is a Warranty Enhancement Program for them.
However overall Toyota's various CVT's have held up quite well.
My CVT in my ‘17 Corolla iM is at 95,000 miles. Super solid.
I recently went from FWD Toyota with good tires too AWD Subaru with good tires and there is no comparison. With my FWD in the snow I would regularly lose traction in corners at very low speed, sub 5 mph going around city streets. I could not start driving on a hill if there was snow or ice.
Couple years ago I put a full pack of MSD coils on it, and they ran amazing right off the bat, and great for about 3 years before I had a coil fail on me while I was camping.
Just had my 2020 Limited Tacoma threw an error code, after 6 hours of diagnostics it was a bad manufactured cylinder head. Lucky for me, I'm 4 months past the warranty (only 48k miles though instead of the 60k on the PT warranty), so now Toyota WILL NOT help at all.
Just had new upper and lower control arms installed yesterday, with Bilstein 6112s ( set at the 2nd setting which is supposed to be 1.9inch of lift) and 5160s in the rear. The truck rides very odd, seems very bouncy between 10-50 miles per hour on regular roads. Also noticed that there are chunks missing out of the LT/RT struts, looks like the springs are making contact with the upper control arms.
