I bought a set of adjustable koni yellows with vogtland springs for my jetta for $40. No idea how old they are, but throw on the stiff setting and they rock corners pretty well.
Jetta has been relatively trouble free but a few quirks here and there. Sometimes the electronics glitch and then figure themselves out. For some reason my car burns through bulbs like crazy, especially the rear lights. Rear brakes had to be replaced around 30-35k. However, the car is an absolute tank otherwise.
I had a set of 4 matching Continental tires with about 90% tread left.
I will also use a zero weight synthetic like mobil one.
My Jetta has Bosch Evolutions which are only starting to streak after almost 4 years.
After using German Castrol on my mkv back in the day my mpgs went up significantly.

Took me 10 seconds to install them. Easiest blades I've ever installed on a car!
I then went with WRD sport springs and Koni ST.R shocks/struts with a eibach 25mm rear sway bar. It was much softer and I enjoyed it but it has more body roll than I want and the Koni's seem to be too soft for what I want, so I am going to change it again.
New throttle body installed...Currently there's zero difference between the old and new throttle body.
