I agree -- the blue stuff's claims of working down to -20 F are simply laughable (I think they mean +20 F). I use the Prestone yellow stuff in winter, and I have activated the washers at -25 F with no freezing
Reviews of spare parts for Volkswagen Passat
And if it does need a heatercore make sure they use the w8 heater core. VW now is superceeding to that because its a bigger heatercore.
I've been using Rain-X Pink/Orange fluid almost exclusivley since the factory fill ran dry. We've been below 20F this entire week and not a problem with the fluid freezing.
green prestonee w/w fluid w/ antifreeze ,dont know if it harms the paint, havnt noticed it on my two passats that i use it in, anyway w/the underhhod heat generated it wont stay rozen long
May not hurt to change the fuel filter too
Turns out the AutoLite plugs that a local parts store sold me are crap for this engine (actually caused misfires) so I went and got Denso double platinum plugs the next day and put those in.
Recently upgraded a W8 wagon to 17 inch wheels and General Exclaim UHP Z-rated tires from Tire Rack. So far delighted. General is a Continental subsidiary, tires are mfg in Germany. Amazing level of comfort for a Z-rated tire.
Passat has stronger brakes, by far. Actually, when I entered Taurus I couldn't believe how weak the brakes are. When I went back to Passat I almost threw myself out of my seat as I stepped so hard on the brake.
At low speeds, ASW uses the ABS sensors and brakes the spinning wheels, which will affect the life of the front brake pads (at least, that's how I understand it).
I just put Bosch Copper plugs in my 2.0 L Passat and it's running like crap. I think I forgot to gap a couple of the plugs... Would that explain the rough running engine?
