my bro. had a turbo VR cabrio running DE brakes and 18" wheels. noticed a little a fade only under EXTREME stop and go conditions. but as far as daily driving goes, they worked very very well.

MK3 TDI oil pump, waaay bigger gears mean no oil problems at high rpm
Jack on my visit the battery was also replaced. Part# 000-915-105-CE. They also replaced two modules that were causing a drain on the battery.
The VW service called yesterday (I took my car in that morning) and stated the battery (driver side) was bad, and was replaced ($347, if not in warranty). Other battery OK.
Okay so I removed the oil pan and it took me about an hour, thanx to not having the right tools. Man does that engine surprise the phuck out of me. 200,000 miles and almost no gunk or nothing on the rods and crank and other stuff.
My car's water drains clogged and the brake booster was saturated and needed to be replaced. Brookline Volkswagen Audi charged me $848.33 to clear the drains and replace the brake booster.
Pros - They have a real oil filter, the case is sturdier, they can handle more power and bigger displacements, they last forever without machining, the stock heads were pretty solid. Cons - They are harder to work on since there is more to assemble and disassemble, parts are slightly more expensive (not much though), they are harder to find, the different year engines had many variations so you have to know which one you've got.
If your going to use a fox radiator becareful cause it will hang pretty low. I ought one and thought it will work but it sits really low if you just drive on streets it should be ok, but mine is a track car so I was worried about going off and possibly hitting it on somehting and causing some problems.
My W8 wagon had fuel leaks a couple of times. A few months ago, it started leaking again, on the driver's side near front of tank. There was a crack in tank, mechanic said "this is a common failure" on Passat tanks.
I was getting a strong smell of fuel in the car and around it when my w8 had more than 3/4 tank of fuel... the dealer took 2 weeks to sort out the issue and came back and told me the tank was cracked and I needed to replace it.
