I've added only one quart of oil to all the VWs I have owned over the past 35 years. I check the oil every 3 months, and get the oil and filter changed annually. I don't think that modern engines consume oil, at least, not for the first 100K miles of their life.

None of my MK7, 7.5 GTIs or GLIs consumed any. Nor does my MK8.
After 6 months of ownership, I have not lost any oil/ needed to add any oil. My MK7 1.8 TSI Golf SportWagen was the same way. Never needed to add a drop between the 10k mile oil changes. Not complaining at all. Quite the contrary. Just hit 6000 miles and the oil still looks new. I was originally planning on 5k mile oil changes but decided 7500 miles makes more sense for me at least.
And an electronic fuel pump.
I love the ea888 2.0 in my 2012 GLI, but aside from water pumps, I've been pretty lucky with mine (knock on wood). Have 143K miles. Timing chain is reaching too stretched point; oil leaks from cam bridge, etc
They changed something on the Arteon vs other VW models -- the procedure is the same, but those tabs just don't bend. I got it done, but it should not be that difficult.
There was only a slight oil residue on top of old water pump and none inside or near the pumps gaskets. No cracks in the plastic housing were found anywhere on the old pump.
I replaced the cabin filter and it is still there.
my 2018 (build date Aug 2018) had no head gasket issues, although the water pump leaked prematurely.
My water pump broke the first time 23k miles ago. Another one just went out on me. I’m 1 month past the 8 years and only at 72k miles.
