OEM Toyota Brake pads

Rating 5.0
  • Braking:
  • Dust:

Just last year I switched out the original Yokohama tires for Pirelli and this year I switched out the original front brake pads. My mechanic said the rear pads still has life in them so deal with it next time. I thought it would cost a lot, but it was just Toyota parts so price was $120 or so.... and its going to be another 10 years before needing another change assuming similar driving habits.

Pros: Toyota parts, reasonable price
Vehicle: Lexus

OEM Toyota Engine oil

Always have done 10k on my ‘22 RAV4 hybrid, which equates to every five or six months (did the same on my ‘16 RAV4 hybrid as well), and do the same on my ‘12 Prius C I’ve had for 11 years now. No issues.

Pros: no issues, long term
Vehicle: Toyota
Mileage: 16000 km

OEM Toyota Tires

Yeah holes in the tyres generally aren\u2019t great for holding pressure! That tyre is a long way past dead, it needs changing ASAP, i personally wouldn\u2019t trust it for driving at any speed.

Cons: tyre past dead
Vehicle: Toyota MR2

  • Overheating:

I wish I knew myself before my overheating probs with the failed first gen water pumps from toyota. Once the new pump was in the engine would work really well when it comes to heating and cooling.

Pros: engine would work well
Cons: overheating probs

Mine started going out at ~165k in 2023. 05 Prius. I mostly drive less 5miles at a shot, and it would toss a code if driven much more than that and it was hot

Pros: peace of mind
Cons: failure at 165k
Vehicle: Toyota Prius
Mileage: 265549 km

OEM Toyota Headlights

We bought a 2013 Toyota last winter and I was surprised to find it was a step backward in headlights from the 2004 Toyota we replaced. Our previous car didn't have an "auto" setting but at least we could just leave the headlights in the "on" position all the time and they'd shut off when we turned the car off, and turn back on when we turned the car back on. With our current car it's like a step back to the 1990s. There's no "auto" setting. The "on" setting really means "on" even if the car isn't running, and if you try to get out of the car without turning the headlights off the car will beep at you incessantly to warn you the battery will die if you don't turn the lights off. Needless to say this has been an adjustment and I have on a few occasions driven a couple of blocks at night before realizing I forgot to turn the headlights on.

Cons: no auto setting, lights stay on, incessant beeping, battery drain risk
Vehicle: Toyota

I own a 2022 Toyota, and I was just complaining to a buddy that the headlights on Auto don’t come on unless it’s basically pitch black. I wish they were more conservative.

Cons: auto-on too dark, not conservative enough
Vehicle: Toyota

OEM Toyota Engine radiator

My first new car was an ‘82 Toyota Celica. I put 3 radiators on that car within 10 years. The OEM radiator had a copper core and plastic tanks, held onto the core with a crimped clamp all around. I don’t think that they paid much attention to expansion rates and coefficients of expansion of different materials when they designed these, and the seals would eventually give out and begin leaking.

Cons: seals give out, frequent leaking
Vehicle: Toyota Celica
