Denso or straight from a Honda Dealership (Denso). Today's aftermarket and remanufactured parts often leave quite a bit to be desired. You may pay a little more, but legit Honda parts won't let you down like the others.
Owner reviews for alternator
I legit daily drive an 03 camry, the only thing that needed changing in my 2 years of owning it was the alternator.
As another recommended I would have gone denso or Bosch or something. But these newer Honda alternators are expensive and around me hard to get.
I had this issue with my 2013 civic. Was replacing the battery about every 12-18 months. All the systems tested fine but the problem was fixed when I finally replaced the alternator.
I did one on my Wife's 2011 Nissan Quest with the same engine as the Pathfinder.
Original one lasted around 130k miles, so can't really complain.
The one on the Quest wasn't great, but I think I got it done in about 4-5 hours.
Had to pull the lower bumper splash shield, and the passenger fender liner.
Then I unbolted the ac compressor and let it drop down (was able to leave all the refrigerant hoses connected so that was a plus).
The upper bolt was a pain to get to, probably the worst part of the job!
With it unbolted there was just barely room to get it out through the wheel well. If you had it positioned just right it would slip through the opening between the subframe and the frame rail.
I changed an alternator on one of these babies and it had AC. Took about 4 hours and thousands of curse words and a few bloody knuckles.
Dead battery within months, and car completely shutting off, your car SCREAMS alternator issue. Get it checked out.
Its a total crapshoot anymore. I had an ac delco gold series last maybe 800 miles before it almost caught fire. Yet in the past I've had em last years and 100k+...
Literally just put a FCP Bosch remanufactured 2 pin alternator in our 530 last week--it doesn't work at all. Communicating with FCP currently to send it back and get a replacement, but I'm not happy about it. I was told that Bosch was the one to go with for best quality, but now I'm skeptical.
Wouldn\u2019t recommend unless you like spending your time on the side of the road or at the dealer. Mine just went back to my local dealer today for its 4th alternator in 32k total miles, 3rd one in the last 6 months. Literally just got the car back 5 days ago for the same issue.
