with the 82 I was able to swap in vented rotors and bought the pads that went to those rotors since these are slimmer than the solid rotor ones. Moral of the story vented rotors with their pads = the same width as solid rotors with their pads. That combination only worked with the right calipers that if IIRC are ATE.
The facts are in ... same caliper as the Bimmer 750 il but the brackets are different Below, that twin piston R32/TT/750 il caliper on the BMW 750 il bracket. The BMW and VAG cars DO NOT share the same bracket. 34111163319 Bimmer front, left Right is 1J0615126 & 5B TT 3.2-R32 front with twin 44mm pistons for 334x32 rotors (1ZT set up) Left is brackets for DE Calipers with the single 54mm piston 288x25 mm (1LC set up). Thumbing through all this saw that you can get a SET of red powder coated Mk IV calipers and carriers for $91.29 INCLUDING the core charge. You'll still need your Mk II or Mk III brake brackets since Mk IV brackets only work on the Mk IV chassis. It's a damn good buy. Can't tell if they have the 38 or the 41mm piston though. Regardless, Audi TT 3.2Q rear brakes ready to bolt on, with the clips and warranty. Those 944 turbo rear brakes getting run as fronts on the Corrado keep coming up because they're alloy, 4 piston and weigh 7.1lb.
The Audi Girling 60 pistons are 45 & 40 mm and 13lb with the brackets ea side. The VW R32 single piston brakes are 54mm and 11 lb without the brackets ea side # (Centric 146.60009 ). If you decide to go with the dual piston R32 calipers 1J0 615 123 E (left) 1J0 614 123 E (right) they are the same one used on the 95-01 BMW 750il. The rebuild parts are the same of course but half the cost (BMW part # 34111163316) @ $40 vs. VW @ $80. The BMW caliper part #'s are 34111163317/8. Have a go at this link on the BimmerForums. They guy even had them powder coated R32 blue! Girling 60 on the Mk III 4x100 is the best bolt on bang for the buck. Make sure you get the girling 60 brackets/carriers too.
I have a set of NOS Girling 60 from Autotech garage sale on the g60 right now. Have been running them for over 7 years. Better pedal feel over the G54's and no changes need to be made to the existing Corrado (g60 or VR) mc.
I had a MK3 GTI VR6 that that happened to. I went thru several e-brake cables. Finally figured out the calipers were steel and they would seize up from rust. I swapped them out for some aluminum ones from a MK4 and the problem was solved forever.
If you're at all mechanically inclined, or have a friend who is, you can get Raybestos premium calipers (both left and right), front pads (left and right) from Rockauto.com for ~$275 shipped, and you'll get ~$50 back after returning the cores.
Girling 60's if you want 2 pots. Save yourself the head ache and get some wilwoods in the classifieds if you want more then a Girling 54.
G60's didnt clear the 15's i bought. Went with smaller girling 54's with 11" discs instead cause I liked the wheels to much. Ive heard the g60's are heavy pos anyways.
The girling 60's I own are to large and I've given up on wanting to use them. They are stupid heavy and its not worth trying to find another set of wheels just to run brakes that do more harm then good.
