OEM Volkswagen Brake fluid

  • Pedal feel:

I definitely recommend getting the car in for a brake fluid replacement. Likely it would firm up the pedal. VW recommends brake fluid changes every 2-3 years which is something no one seems to bother with these days. Almost no manufacturer recommends it but I have always found it made a difference in brake feel and the longevity of the metal parts in the brake system.

Pros: firm up the pedal

OEM MINI Brake fluid

Rating 4.0
  • Pedal feel:

Did a regular maintenance at 29K km and 4 y.o. with oil and air filters and stuff for 370 EUR. Maybe even spark plugs, i forgot. Later did a brake fluid change for 70 EUR.

And yes, brake fluid does degrade, the brake pedal felt smoother and more consistent after the change.

Pros: smoother brake pedal
Vehicle: MINI
Mileage: 29000 km

I've been using the same kind you bought and my brakes feel and work great. Like others have said unless you're tracking it you'll be fine.

Pros: brakes feel and work great

Expect to chew through tires, brake pads, rotors, and brake fluid if you start tracking the car regularly. From my own experience, I recommend replacing your fluid with something better.

Pros: better brake fluid

I used ATE dot4 SL6 ( 3 cans)* bleeding out all OE fluids! But I did carefully with just 10-12 psi ( Motive)* slowly, 15-20 psi personally for me is risky And probably I will do again next year to completely clear the old fluids, I believe there 5% left there Ate dot 4 SL6 is pretty good for 2 years, I had issue with traction and brake1 pressure sensor(g201-g214) for a year but after flushing it\u2019s gone, my OBD2 tell zero prob now than before flushing !

Pros: pretty good, zero prob
Cons: risky, 5% left

  • Pedal feel:

ATE DOT 4 brake fluid is more than enough except for the most severe track duty (I've autocrossed my car heavily without any issue using it) and is much cheaper than Motul.

Pros: sufficient for track, cheaper

Pentosin Brake fluid

Another shout for the Pentosin Dot 4. There is no good reason to use Dot 3 fluid. VW specs 2 year interval, time, not mileage. Think of routine periodic flushing of the brake fluid like an oil change for your brakes. Good preventive maintenance. Water soaked brake fluid puts expensive ABS hardware at risk for corrosion, failure and significant repair expense.. Flushing the brake fluid is a simple task. Floor jack, jack stands, wrench, clear tube, jar or bottle, nitrile gloves and safety glasses. fat biker

Pros: Good preventive maintenance
Cons: ABS hardware at risk

  • Pedal feel:

Just did brake fluid flush myself this past weekend. A Genuine VW 1L bottle from FCP was $13 tacked on to all the other stuff I ordered, and that was plenty of fluid to flush all 4 corners and have some left over. DOT 4 Class 6 was on the bottle. Pedal felt great afterward, I did this as part of the 40k mi service.

Pros: Pedal felt great
