Akebono Brake pads

Rating 4.5

I run AkiBono pads with Brembo rotors on both of our E39’s and both E46’s ( and Volvo xc90 ???? home depot use-free vehicle) and love the setup. On the E46’s very similar feel to OE Jurid or Pagid and on the E39’s ( US spec 2003 540/6 and 2001 530 sport auto) softer initial bite yet excellent braking with great modulation and stopping power, quiet, long lasting, minimal rotor wear and the light dust is barely noticeable, easily rinses off and is non-caustic.

Pros: excellent braking, quiet, long lasting
Cons: light dust

DIXCEL Brake pads

Rating 4.0
  • Braking:

For brakes, you're limited to whatever you can fit with your wheels.. I doubt you'd fit Brembo's with them, so you may be limited to 4pot/2pot or just rebuilding your current calipers with good street pads and rotors.

On my WRX, I use Dixcel ES pads front and rear

Pros: good street pads
Vehicle: Subaru

Carbotech Brake pads
Topkat
Rating 5.0
  • Braking:

I am currently using Carbotech XP10's in front and the XP8's for the rears. I really like them and have not had an issue so far. Plus the company has great customer service. They are definitely NOT a street pad, and I need to swap them the night before a track meet and put street pads on the day after, but the effort is worth it.

Pros: good bite, great service
Cons: not a street pad
Vehicle: Volkswagen

OEM Toyota Brake pads

I had this symptom as well 2 months ago because my brake pads were worn out. The rotors was fine so only had to replace the brake pad and the braking vibrations went as well.

Pros: braking vibrations went
Cons: brake pads worn out
Vehicle: Toyota

ATE Brake pads

Rating 5.0

FWIW I wound up with those Brembo front and Zimmerman coated rears with ATE ceramic pads and I’m very happy with it. To me the stock setup is grabby at low speeds and these are much smoother. I don’t feel like I’ve lost any stopping power. Huge difference in brake dust.

Pros: much smoother, less brake dust
Cons: stock setup is grabby

Jaguar Brake pads

I had a new Jaguar, first service, drove about 40kms, hit a small bump and the engine light came on within 100 metres. Car stopped...popped the bonnet and first thing I noticed was this huge 40 cm screw driver hanging just behind the radiator...I managed to get free brake pads for the Jaguar when needed.

Pros: free brake pads
Mileage: 40 km

ATE Brake pads

I literally just did exactly this.. Had the BRAKE warning light on the dash and replace rear brakes on Idrive message on my 2019 X3 M40i at 32k miles.. rear rotors looked fine to me.. they were smooth and not grooved.. so i bought OEM ATE PADS and a BOWA rear brake sensor.. $128 shipped from Pelican parts and i was charged 1 hour of labor ($135) at my local Indy shop.. as others have mentioned youtube is your friend.. just a rear pads replacement is a pretty easy job w basic tools.. I should have done it myself but I decided the $135 cost was not worth my time and effort.

Pros: easy installation, inexpensive parts
Vehicle: BMW M4
Mileage: 32000 km

Bendix Brake pads

I had bendix on my cars before, the gen CT and metal king has too much metal components, hence its noisy and scratches the rotors.
