I use Mobil 1 European Car Formula 0W-40. This meets VW 502.00 specs and has a slightly wider multigrade range that suits the climate where I live: it'll be -15°F overnight this week, but well up into the nineties in summer. This Mobil 1 is also readily available almost anywhere, and was also approved for our previous BMW 525i and is for the Audi Q5 that's replaced it, so using the same oil for both simplifies my automotive life.
Owner reviews for engine oil
Liquimoly Leichlauf High Tech 5W-40 with OEM filter. VW 502.00 and 505.00 certification and no complaint here.
RotellaT and Wix. Since my first turbo in 2007.
I've been using Valvoline #VV966 VW502-approved full synthetic 5W40 MST on our Audi and the GSW. Works well, no issues.
at 30K and third oil change @ 10K, my oil analysis went to the waste oil furnace, it said the oil was perfect. First change @10K was Castrol 0W40, last two were Mobil 1 0W40.
My experience with oil consumption - 5W30 VW - First oil used by me in this car - 2000km - 200 ml added 5W40 Fuchs Titan Race Pro S - Now in the engine - 1000km - Same level as it was at the revision
Oil and filter change, switched to motul 4100 15w50 (thanks Bernardo on the recomendation)
No warranty here (MKV), but i experienced a (significant) decrease in oil consumption, when switching from Motul, to MolyGen. YMMV.
I used Rotella T6 in my old Subaru. It solved the oil consumption issue that boxer engine had. Seems like most people on NASIOC run T6. So if your car burns oil, it's worth a shot.
I've used it in my Z06, Suburban, my wife's Ford Edge Ecoboost and my old Gixxer and R6.
It's a good oil and cost effective.
It's synthetic, has decent additives and won't hurt anything in any of your vehicles.
