These new vws come with cheap plastic oil pans that brake like an egg shell, thats why i always replaced mine with metal ones right away
Owner reviews for oil pan
I destroyed the oil pan on my mk4 vr6 on a seasonal road one time. Swapped over to a steel mk3 pan, best decision ever.
I'm running a MK5 oil pan and it helps a little bit with clearance but yeah you can run the shorter oil pan no issues that I've heard just $$$$ for the pan.
I had bought this INA oil pan for the old car because it could corner well enough that I had oil starvation problems around some longer turns. I figured that it's an even worse problem to have with a K20 because it uses oil pressure to control valve and camshaft timing, so I had to find a solution to that.
oil pan is by design very tender. a lot of people have had it broken. dealerships want 200+ for new one.
Just had major neck surgery so couldn't do my own and went to Valvoline. They cracked the oil pan and said the car was defective. Still fighting with them to get it fixed.
I was surprised by how few OEM oil pans for the 3rd gen 5.0L was in stock. Ended up needing to buy a used one on eBay after mine got cracked.
this just happened on my 2016 VW Golf. i had no evidence of oil leaking and no low oil lights came on. suddenly the oil pressure light came on and i pulled over within a couple of blocks. by the time it was towed to the garage, they found the oil pan cracked and caused enough damage to the engine that it needs replacement. This seems outrageous to me.
2021 VW Passat SE, My oil pan cracked a few weeks ago blamed it on my son hitting something. I had it replaced at a local repair spot as it’s no longer under warranty. I drove it for a week or so and notice major oil leak again, took back to my repair guy, oil pan cracked again in same spot.
I came to the realization that the oil pan leak was just a normal part of ownership.
