  • No scraping:

The mk4 aluminum oil pan has a better oil distribution baffling blah stuff. the steel ones dont. However, comma, if you are low and scrape a lot then I wouldnt recommend the aluminum ones. Steel is a lot sturdier. Just get whatevers available imo.

Pros: better oil distribution
Cons: less sturdy, scrapes easily
Vehicle: Volkswagen Golf

Okay so I removed the oil pan and it took me about an hour, thanx to not having the right tools. Man does that engine surprise the phuck out of me. 200,000 miles and almost no gunk or nothing on the rods and crank and other stuff.

Pros: little gunk, clean engine
Cons: wrong tools
Vehicle: Volkswagen Fox
Mileage: 321869 km

Shop told me it was \"still holding a little bit of oil\" when they got it so they didn't suspect major engine problems. They also replaced the side rocker panel for another $400 (which seemed unneeded). Seems like the only things they actually did as far as the oil pan goes are replace the oil pan and replace the oil pan gasket.

Pros: oil pan replaced
Cons: negligence, didn't add oil
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 82000 km

My friend in high school cracked the oil pan in his Jetta twice. Is there something about these cars that makes them more vulnerable to catching the oil pan on things?

Cons: oil pan cracks easily
Vehicle: Volkswagen Jetta

Worst part is the plastic oil pans, I guess VW didn't put 2 and 2 together with all of their other plastic parts failing miserably...

Cons: plastic parts failing
